Legend Of The Pink Mattress
acrylic, triptych, 40x62, 2014
In February of 2012, I was in an accident in Haiti, off the main island in la Gonave on a mountainous road with 14 others. The nearest hospital was two hours away, and two people among us were seriously injured. A mission nearby sent us a big truck, but the seriously injured had to ride in the bare back of that truck on a very bumpy ride. Out of nowhere, a man with a shiny big pink mattress was coming up the hill; he was delivering it to a house on the hill. Haitians came to help us went to him and convinced him to give up the mattress for us injured. It slid perfectly into the back of the truck where the injured were gently laid down. There were many other coincidences that helped us all that day in Haiti. The painting took two years to be completed; it has been my healing journey.
