San Miguel Portal

8/2023, acrylic and charcoal on canvas.
Sometimes a place is not only a destination for vacations or events, but also a holding place of a state of being. The colonial architecture in Mexican towns such as San Miguel de Allende starts with a door as the beginning. Often you are surprised to find a spacious courtyard and an arched corridor, a staircase to a lovely balcony, for example, when you enter through the door. This painting and its door are a metaphor for this opening to a state of being that happens when I'm in this town.
